THE Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for ice affecting much of the North East and North Yorkshire as snow is snow starts to hit the region today.
The first signs of the white stuff have begun to show this morning as traffic cameras have confirmed that snow has fallen in Tow Law and Lanehead in County Durham.
Met Office continue to predict further snowfall in Darlington and surrounding areas from 7pm tonight.

However, they have also issued a yellow warning for ice affecting much of the North East and North Yorkshire from 8pm tonight until 10am tomorrow.
According to the Met Office, “snow and hail showers could lead to icy surfaces” which may result in “possible travel disruption.”
The forecaster has warned that some icy patches on untreated roads and pavements may lead to increased chances of accidents and injuries.
Higher roads may also see snowfall, which would also result in longer journey times.
When will it snow?
According to the Met Office, snow is expected to start falling at 7pm on Wednesday with a 30% chance of precipitation.
Further snow is then expected that night from 10pm into the following morning until 4am where there is a 40% chance of precipitation throughout that period.
There is a further smaller chance of rain and snow later in the day at 10am, with another 40% chance of precipitation.
Similarly, NetWeather.tv has also predicted snow from 7pm tomorrow with an 86% chance dropping to 76% as the night progresses but increasing again into a 90% chance at 4am.

What is the weather like today and tonight:
The Met Office has warned of bands of rain and hill snow this morning with further snow showers following from the North East.
There may be sunny spells in the afternoon, however, snow showers will continue with a maximum temperature of 5c.
Looking ahead into tonight, snow showers will continue throughout the night and things will feel cold with a minimum temperature of -4c.
What will the weather be like tomorrow?
Thursday will see further blustery and wintry showers at first which will gradually ease and become less frequent during the day.
What will the weather be like on the weekend?
The weather is expected to be “bright and sunny” on Friday according to the Met Office, however few showers are possible along the coast.
Saturday will be cloudy with outbreaks of rain, however, there will be widespread sunshine on Sunday.
