A spokesperson for the police force said: "Police are aware of discussions on social media about a driver allegedly following children who were making their way home from school in Guisborough on Tuesday.
"A number of parents/carers had contacted police late that afternoon, making similar reports about the behaviour of the female driver.
"Officers gave initial safeguarding advice while enquiries began, and a woman in her late 60s was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and on suspicion of a public order offence.
