THE Met Office continues to warn that the North East could see three days of snow this week as temperatures plummet – but when exactly is it expected to snow?
According to the weather-forecaster, the North East and North Yorkshire is set to see falling temperatures as we say goodbye to the warmer, summer weather.
As we move into the middle of the week, “heavy hail and snow showers” are set to bring disruption to the region as it marks the start of three days of unsettled weather.

When will we see snow exactly?
According to the Met Office, snow is expected to start falling at 7pm on Wednesday with a 30% chance of precipitation.
Further snow is then expected that night from 10pm into the following morning until 4am where there is a 40% chance of precipitation throughout that period.
There is a further smaller chance of rain and snow later in the day at 10am, with another 40% chance of precipitation.
Similarly, NetWeather.tv has also predicted snow from 7pm tomorrow with an 86% chance dropping to 76% as the night progresses but increasing again into a 90% chance at 4am.

WXCharts has predicted up to 1cm of snow for Darlington and surrounding areas, with some areas of North Yorkshire seeing 2cm.
What is the weather like today and tonight?
Today the Met Office has predicted fog and low cloud for many areas and scattered showers, however there will also be sunny intervals at times.
Showers will continue into the late morning, possibly turning heavy at times and thicker cloud and outbreaks of rain will arrive in the North of the area in the late afternoon.
Today will see a maximum temperature of 12c.
Looking ahead into tonight, the band of rain will continue to move southwards and overnight turning to snow over high ground by Wednesday morning.
Tonight will see a minum temperature of -3c.
What will the weather be like this weekend and next week?
The long-range forecast between Saturday April 2 and Monday April 11 has predicted a cold start to the period with bands of wintry showers over northern and eastern areas.

The full long-range forecast reads: “High pressure to the west of the UK and Ireland will mean northerly winds will bring a cold start to the period, with bands of wintry showers most frequent over northern and eastern areas, although some showers are also likely inland during the weekend and could be heavy at times.
“Unsettled conditions are expected to continue into next week - most areas will see spells of rain or showers, potentially wintry on high ground, mixed with drier and more settled periods when frost could be widespread under overnight clear skies.
“Some strong winds are likely at times too, particularly in northern and western areas. Temperatures likely recovering to nearer average towards the end of the period.”
