A NORTH Yorkshire student impressed judges at a regional competition after her mastery of two instruments.
Ripon Grammar School student Katherine Wedgner’s performance on both an oboe and piano secured her the Elizabeth Hopkins Trophy in the virtuoso class at Harrogate Competitive Festival.

After having performed two pieces well above grade 8 level, she was delighted to pick up the trophy but “didn’t think” she was going to win.
Kathrine, 17 from the Netherlands, said: “The standards were very high, I thought the others were so good."
Katherine is now working towards her piano and oboe diplomas having achieved grade 8 levels in both while studying maths, geography and chemistry at A-level.
Director of music Michael Barker at Ripon Grammar School, said it was “an amazing achievement.”

He added: “The pieces Katherine chose were way above Grade 8 level. It shows tremendous versatility to play two instruments to such a very high standard."
