TRAFFIC was brought to a standstill on a North East road on Sunday after a bus billowed smoke after reportedly catching fire.
The broken down vehicle blocked traffic at Station Lane and The Front, Seaton Carew, during a busy period on Sunday (March 27) afternoon.
Videos shared by onlookers show smoke billowing from the vehicle as pedestrians moved out of the area.
Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade attended the scene at around 2.30pm, with police officers on-site to manage traffic queues.
The cause of the blaze is unknown but pictures shared on social media show a Stagecoach bus parked in the middle of the road with a flap at the back open.
There was speculation that the bus overheated due to soaring temperatures, however this has not been confirmed.
It came as the Seaton Carew seafront area was packed with revellers enjoying the sunshine and warm weather on Mother's Day.
