THERE have been further delays into the inquest of an 18-year-old girl from County Durham who died at a mental health hospital in 2020.

Emily Moore, from Shildon, died at Lanchester Road Hospital while under the care of Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust in February 2020.

An inquest was opened into the death of the teenager in the November of that year but has been adjourned on a number of occasions to allow for further investigations to take place.

A brief hearing was held at Crook  Coroner’s Court today, when it was adjourned again for another month.

Coroner Crispin Oliver said the next hearing would take place on April 25, when he hoped a decision would be made about how the inquest should progress.

Emily’s father David is part of a family-run pressure group “Rebuild Trust”, which is campaigning for a public inquiry into TEWV in the wake of her death, and those of Christie Harnett, 17 and Nadia Sharif, 17.

The Northern Echo:

The three girls died within an eight month period at facilities run by the trust.

More than 1,500 people have signed a petition backing the inquiry, while about £2,800 has been donated to the group via an online crowdfunding page to fund the campaign.

They are hoping to raise £5,000.

TEWV is cooperating with an independent investigation, commissioned by NHS England and Improvement.
