FOOTAGE shows the moment a killer used her victim’s bank card to buy crisps from a local shop after stabbing a woman in a fatal attack.

Keegan Barnes, from Thornaby, Teesside, spent Toni Butler’s money in the One Stop shop across the road from her house while her victim lay dying, or was already dead, in June last year.

An attempt to buy a scratch card with Ms Butler's bank card was declined, with Barnes instead leaving the shop with a packet of Space Raiders.

Barnes, 28, stabbed Ms Butler twice in the leg after an argument while intoxicated during a three-day drinking and drug-taking spree. She can be seen in the store at around 7.30am on June 10 dressed in a blue nightie.

The time of the attack is unclear, but Ms Butler was later found dead by paramedics inside the house at 12.45pm after the second stab wound, inflicted by Barnes, severed a vital vein meaning Ms Butler bled to death.

But Barnes did not call for help until a neighbour came to her house, meaning Ms Butler could have been lying lifeless for hours.

Addressing Barnes, Judge Justice Lavender said: “You wrongly sought to blame TB for her own death, falsely claiming that she had stabbed herself.”

Teesside Crown Court heard how Barnes had attempted cover-up the killing by undressing Ms Butler, cleaned her body and put a new night shirt on her.

She is believed to have put the washing machine on twice, put clothes out to dry, put other stained items in a bag, tried to wipe blood stains from the walls, and even started painting the walls to cover the blood stains.

Yet her attempts were labelled “extensive and futile” by Judge Justice Lavender.
