A TEENAGER has been arrested after a rock was thrown at a bus in County Durham.

The 13-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, chucked a rock at an Arriva Bus in Crook earlier this month.

The teenager was interviewed under caution and admitted throwing the stone, which smashed the window of the bus in the Market Place at about 2.15pm on March 5.

No one was injured during the incident.

The boy has now been referred to the Youth Offending Team for criminal damage.

Neighbourhood Policing Sergeant Grant Cockerill said: “This type of behaviour is unacceptable and officers will pursue anyone who commits a criminal act or behaves in an anti-social manner.

“We continue to focus on engaging with young people to combat anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity and encourage residents to report any incidents to us.”

Earlier this month, The Northern Echo revealed bus drivers in County Durham and Darlington are becoming increasingly worried about being injured due to the number of incidents of objects being thrown at vehicles.

Vandals have been spotted throwing bricks, rocks and other debris at vehicles, shattering windows and forcing key services to spend days off the roads while they are repaired.
