With the support of the Tees Valley Growth Fund, Hall Garth Hotel in Darlington has created a new hybrid working facility for the local community.
Operating as a hotel since the 1970s, the manor house at the heart of the hotel dates back as far as the 17th century. When the house became a commercial hotel it underwent several extensions to create large event and banqueting spaces.

The hotel would regularly be full Monday – Thursday with meetings and events, however even pre pandemic the trend for offsite meetings was in decline and in a post pandemic world used to Zoom hotel bosses knew they needed to find a way to repurpose some of the space.
The plan was to create a co-working business hub at Hall Garth with two key objectives - to provide a new B2B facility that will benefit the local business community and to repurpose redundant space, secure or create jobs and drive revenue.
The Business Hub provides a community space for professionals to work individually or as a team, host meetings and also be able to access refreshments throughout the day and have the option to include exercise with gym, golf and leisure facilities.
The support of the Tees Valley Growth Fund meant the project could be completed during late 2021 and early 2022 to meet the demand for alternative work and meeting space for hybrid working.
The Business Hub will be open for general use from today, the space provides individual workstations equipped with power and USB chargers, larger meeting tables and space for informal meetings.
The facility is open to all on a drop-in basis initially, dining facilities are available and there is free on site parking.
The hotel is part of a privately owned collection of four hotels, The Squirrel Group, owned and operated by North of England Estates.
It has 56 bedrooms, indoor pool, gym and spa facilities and a 9-hole golf course designed to be played as 18 holes .
