THE Queen’s Green Canopy is a tree-planting initiative being held across the country with people being invited to plant a tree for the Jubilee, with the first trees being planted this week.
The initiative aims to encourage everyone to learn more about the best way to plant trees so that they survive and flourish providing a lasting legacy for years to come.
There are more than 3,500 trees to plant as part of the scheme and Darlington Borough Council needs volunteers to help.
Heather Scott, Leader of the council, said: “The Queen’s Green Canopy is a fantastic idea and I am delighted that we are able to plant trees across the borough and celebrate Her Majesty with the community.
“Please get the dates in your diary and come and help us plant the trees to mark this historic occasion.”
