COUNCIL tax bills containing ‘gibberish’ have sent out to people by a local authority in the North East.
Nonsense words appearing on Gateshead Council documents have left residents in the borough scratching their heads as to what it means.
The total demand of £1,475.58 for band A property was said to be the AOAAL AMOUNA PAYAULE.

Gateshead Council’s strategic director for resources and digital, Darren Collins, said: “We were made aware of a printing error on a batch of council tax bills and benefit notification letters issued to residents last week where some of the wording on the bills and letters was unclear.
“Our printing contractor has taken full responsibility for the technical printing error and will be issuing replacement bills at no cost to the council.
“Correct bills, along with a letter of apology, will be issued to affected customers this week.
“We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
Meanwhile residents are being encouraged to sign up to pay by direct debit to get their £150 rebate from the Government.
For those who do not sign up, the council will produce an online form so people can request for it to be paid into their bank or used as council tax credit.
A spokeswoman for Gateshead Council said: “Other options will be available for residents who may not have a current bank account and who do not want the payment credited to their council tax account.
“We will also introduce other contact options to ensure that residents who are unable to use our website or online forms are able to request a credit to their council tax account or a direct payment.”
