A COUNTY Durham man has been told he must keep his dog on a lead and a muzzle while in public.

John Norman Thompson, from Consett, appeared at Peterlee Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

The 51-year-old was facing a charge of failing to keep his dog under proper control following an incident on September 15 last year.

Following the hearing, Thompson has been told to keep his dog Princess on a lead and muzzled at all times while in a public place to prevent a similar incident from happening.

Princess, a Chinese Staffie cross with a boxer, was deemed to be dangerous and not kept under proper control.

Thompson, of Percy Terrace, Consett, was told to pay court costs of £50.
