COUNTY Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service (CDDFRS) has been awarded the title of ‘UK Fire and Rescue Service of the year’ at the IESE Public Sector Transformation Awards ceremony held in London earlier this week.

The Service were commended for their ability to put communities at the heart of everything they do and striving to ‘be the best.’ It was said that they have taken their values of being professional, innovative and effective to become a leading example of best practice.

Chief Fire Officer Stuart Errington said: “I am both delighted & proud that our service has been crowned fire and rescue service of the year.

“This would not have been possible without the hard work & dedication of every member of staff who work tirelessly to keep the public of County Durham & Darlington safe.”

Cllr. John Shuttleworth, Chair of County Durham and Darlington Combined Fire Authority commented: “This is such a fantastic outcome, and I cannot express how much the Service is deserving of this award. Not only for their hard work from all staff on a day-to-day basis, but especially during the difficult circumstances we have all found ourselves in due to the pandemic.

“CDDFRS has also shown what an integral part they are to our communities during the recent storms our area has been though. I am very proud to be apart of such an amazing service who steps up whenever they are needed. They certainly deserve to be bringing the trophy home to County Durham and Darlington.”
