FILMING of a pilot episode for a new sitcom starring Denise Welch has been taking place in County Durham this week.
Parts of Consett and Stanley, such as Empire Working Men’s Club, have been turned into television sets for Dead Canny, which is due to be screened on Dave later this year.
It is about a ‘questionable young psychic’ from Consett whose can see dead people, which earns her cash-in-hand money at her local pub.
Things take a turn for the worse when she becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation.

Writer Anna Costello, who is from Consett, said: “When I wrote Dead Canny, a comedy pilot set in Consett, I never dreamed that one day it would actually be made.
“Filming in my home town has been such an incredible and enlightening experience.
“The entire cast and crew have been absolutely phenomenal and I can't thank TriForce Productions, Minnie and Fraser, and UKTV enough for the opportunity.”
