PEOPLE in Darlington are being urged to get involved with planting thousands of trees around the borough.
More than 3,500 trees will be planted this spring as part of celebrations to mark the Queen’s platinum jubilee.
The trees are being planted as part of a national Queen’s “green canopy” scheme.
Heather Scott, Leader of the council, said: “The Queen’s Green Canopy is a fantastic idea and I am delighted that we are able to plant trees across the borough and celebrate Her Majesty with the community.
“Please get the dates in your diary and come and help us plant the trees to mark this historic occasion.”

Ten community tree planting events are being held around the borough, starting on March 17.
Members of the public are being urged to get involved and find out about the best way to plant trees so that they survive and flourish, providing a lasting legacy for years to come.
All equipment will be provided but people are asked to attend in appropriate clothing and footwear.
