A NORTH Yorkshire restaurant is the only one in the region to recevie a coveted Rosette Award this month.

The AA announced its March 2022 Rosette Award winners in a virtual ceremony this morning (March 2), recognising the restaurants achieving the highest culinary standards in the UK.

Goldsborough Hall in Knaresborough - a Jacobean stately home that was once home to HRH Princess Mary - is the only venue in the North East and North Yorkshire to receive the accolade today after being awarded three prestigious AA Rosettes.

Commenting on the cuisine on offer at Goldsborough Hall , the AA inspectors said "Canapés are served in the lounge before guests are shown through to an intimate dining space with linen-swathed tables, a baby grand, and a splendid marble fireplace.

"Modern British cooking raids the kitchen garden.

"Jerusalem artichoke tart with Alsace bacon and maple syrup, or mosaic of foie gras and corn-fed chicken with trompette mushroom, smoked prune puree and pickled shimeju are excellent starters, while poached cod loin with scallop mousse, red dulse, chicken jus, and koji is an equally outstanding main.

"Finish off with poached Yorkshire rhubarb, soy ginger, and white chocolate."

Congratulating the rosette winners, Simon Numphud, managing director at AA Media said: “We are delighted to recognise those restaurants that are achieving the highest levels of gastronomic excellence in our country.

"Congratulations to all those working at these establishments, who continue to show the breadth and quality of the British culinary landscape.”

In this morning's ceremony two restaurants were awarded four AA Rosettes, while Goldsborough Hall was one of 15 to receive three.

The restaurants receiving four AA Rosettes were Allium at Askham Hall in Cumbria and Ácléaf at Borringdon Hall in Plymouth.

Those awarded three AA Rosettes include Dean Banks at The Pompadour in Edinburgh, Henrock in Windermere and The Camellia Restaurant at South Lodge in West Sussex.

Establishments with three AA Rosettes are all deemed outstanding restaurants achieving standards which demand national recognition well beyond their local area, while those awarded four AA Rosettes are considered among the top restaurants in the country.
