RESIDENTS were told to stay indoors and a street cordon was erected in a Darlington street over the weekend.
Emergency services were called to Leconfield, near Abbey Road sports field, in the town on Friday evening (February 25) after receiving reports of a leaking gas cylinder from a vehicle.
The cordon and stay indoors order was in place as fire crews worked to resolve the incident.
The road reopened in the early hours of Saturday morning.
A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “Emergency services were called at 7.10pm on Friday (February 25) to reports of a gas cylinder leaking from a campervan parked on Leconfield, in Darlington.
“As a safety precaution while fire crews worked at the scene, residents were advised to stay inside their properties and a cordon was put in place surrounding the vehicle.
“The road reopened at 12.10am the following morning.”
