A PENSIONER was seriously injured in a suspected hit and run last night.
The 85-year-old man was crossing the road in Woodburn, Gateshead when it is believed he was struck by a dark coloured vehicle which then left the scene.
He is in a critical condition in hospital.
An investigation has been launched and enquiries to trace the driver are ongoing.

Any witnesses to the incident, which happened at about 7.30pm, are asked to contact police.
Witnesses, or motorists with dashcam footage are asked to get in touch with officers to establish what has happened.
