AN inquest has opened into the death of a 17-year-old boy.

Philip Plews, from Darlington, died on February 5 following a crash in the town.

He was the passenger of a white Transit van, which crashed in Carmel Road South at about 7.30pm that day.

The teenager, who funeral was held this week, was pronounced dead at the scene.

An inquest into his death was opened during a brief hearing at Crook Coroner’s Court on Thursday, February 24.

The Northern Echo:

It was adjourned and listed for a further mention on March 8.

Police are still carrying out an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

A man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving following the crash.

Durham Police confirmed this week enquiries were still ongoing.
