A ROAD was closed by emergency services and the air ambulance was called to an address in a County Durham village earlier today (February 24) after a ‘medical emergency’ was reported.
St Aidans Terrace in Trimdon Station was shut off by police vehicles at around 11.15am this morning after a member of the public was taken ill.
The incident was initially attended by officers from Durham Constabulary and the North East Ambulance Service, but paramedics from the Great North Air Ambulance (GNAA) were also required.
A spokesperson for Durham Constabulary said: “We did attend to assist the road closer of St Aidan’s Terrace but that was the extent of our involvement.”
At around 11.40am, GNAA’s critical team were on scene, but were soon dispatched to another incident after it was established that the patient didn’t need to be airlifted to hospital.

A spokesperson for GNAA said: “Our critical care team were activated at 11.33am to reports of a medical incident near Trimdon. They arrived on scene at 11.42am.
“Our team didn’t take anyone to hospital, they were diverted to another incident up in Scotland at 12.28pm.”
One patient was later taken to hospital via a road ambulance, and the road was reopened shortly after 1pm.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We received a call at 11.15am this morning to a person unwell in the Trimdon area. We dispatched one ambulance crew, one rapid response vehicle, and received support from the Great North Air Ambulance Service."
