A SUNDERLAND AFC fan remains in a ‘critical but stable condition’ after requiring urgent medical attention at last night’s (February 22) match against Burton Albion.
The supporter collapsed in the west stand of the Stadium of Light during the League One clash just after kick-off – suspending the fixture for 50 minutes, so that the man could receive treatment from the paramedics.
Stewards cleared the area in the west stand by asking supporters to make their way into the concourse to ensure emergency services could safely transfer the patient from the seating area.

At around 8:35pm, the supporter was transferred from the ground and play resumed.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “Our event cover team supporting the Sunderland match were alerted to a medical emergency in the crowd at 7.49pm. Four paramedics were on scene within 30 seconds alongside the crowd doctor, St John Ambulance colleagues and an off duty paramedic who also stopped to help. The patient was transported to hospital for further treatment.”
Following the treatment in the ground, the supporter was transported to hospital – where he was reportedly in a ‘critical but stable condition, according to police officers who were in attendance.
There is a break in play due to a medical emergency in the stand.
