NORTHERN Powergrid says it has restored electricity to all the homes left without power after Storm Eunice hit on Friday.

More than 30,000 homes were left without power as the storm brought winds of up to 75mph to the region on Friday.

As of last night, Northern Powergrid said that engineers had reconnected all the customers affected.

However, the firm's live powercut map shows this morning that 40 homes in the TS19 area near Stockton are still without power and less than ten homes in the DL14 postcode area near Woodside are also without electricity.

Around 230 homes in Boldon Colliery and a handful of homes near Seaburn are also without electricity this morning, according to Northern Powergrid's map.

A spokesman said last night: "We are grateful to the fantastic team of people who have worked to restore supplies to over 30,000 customers and to support all those affected (by Storm Eunice).

"We are grateful to our customers for their patience as we worked to restore supplies and apologise for the inconvenience caused by the disruption, particularly to those who had to wait the longest.

"Whilst we’re pleased all customers affected in our region have been restored, we know that the storm has done much more damage further south. So far, we have been able to release resources into the industry mutual aid arrangements to support the efforts of those companies who helped us recently when our region took the brunt of the damage.

"We are hopeful of being able to do more as the weekend progresses."

A yellow weather warning for heavy rain is in place for western parts of the region today (February 20).

Forecasters say that downpours are expected to lead to some disruption and flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely in some areas under the warning.

Officials also warn that spray and flooding on roads may make journey times longer.

Areas of the region not covered by the weather warning are still expected to experience heavy rain turning to sleet towards the end of Sunday along with gusty winds throughout the day.
