THE region is braced for what has been described will be one of the "worst storms in 30 years" as a number of areas could be at risk of flooding.

The Government has updated its list of live flood alerts and warnings with several areas in the North East and North Yorkshire at risk.

It comes as Storm Eunice is set to bring strong winds and snow later today and has already started to cause disruption to everyday life.

We've looked through the list to bring you the latest alerts for our region.

Flood alert for Lower River Swale

"This flood alert has been issued as river levels have risen on the Lower River Swale around Maunby due to heavy rainfall on Wednesday 16/02/2022.

"Areas most at risk include The River Swale and tributaries from Catterick Bridge to the confluence with the River Ure.

"River levels are expected to remain high during Thursday 17/02/2022. Further heavy rain is forecast for Friday 18/02/2022.

"We will continue to monitor levels closely. Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

Flood alert for Upper River Ouse

!This flood alert remains in force as levels are rising on the River Ouse, due to heavy rain falling on the Pennines during Wednesday 16/02/2022.

"Flooding is expected to affect locations near the River Ouse, with low lying land most affected, particularly around Riverside footpaths and low-lying land in York and to the south as far as Naburn Lock, including Kings Staith, Queens Staith, and South Esplanade. The forecast is for a peak around 2.6 m about 4:00 PM on Thursday 17/02/2022.

"Further rainfall is forecast for Friday. We will continue to monitor levels closely. It is expected that the Foss Barrier will be operated during Thursday.

"Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water. Plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded."

North Sea coast from Whitby to Filey flood alert area - REMOVED

A flood alert for another part of the region has been removed: "This flood alert has been removed as conditions have eased.

"We are expecting stormy conditions on the coast again during Friday 18/02/2022 and may need to issue this alert again if conditions deteriorate."
