A MAN has been fined thousands of pounds after being caught dumping waste on multiple occasions.

Nigel Harker, from Hartlepool, pleaded guilty to three charges of depositing controlled waste without a current environmental permit.

The 45-year-old was sentenced by Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

The first charge related to waste left at Faraday Road North East Industrial Estate in Peterlee on August 14, 2020.

He was also caught dumping waste at Armstrong Road North East Industrial Estate in Peterlee on September 10, 2020 and on a road near Sheraton Hall Farm, Sheraton on November 19, 2020.

He also pleaded guilty to failing to provide facilities required by an authorised person in the execution his powers under the Environment Act, relating to an incident on January 27, 2021.

Harker, of Leven Grove, was fined £2,400 and was made subject to a criminal behaviour order, which means he will have to produce a valid waste carriers licence to Durham County Council to prove he is an authorised to operate as a waste carrier.

He will also have to pay court costs of £1,562.30 and a victim surcharge of £190.
