A DARLINGTON man who was caught driving while disqualified has been jailed for a string of offences.

Scott Hurman was caught behind the wheel of a Transit van in the town's Coleridge Gardens on June 13, 2021, despite supposedly serving a driving ban.

He also had no insurance policy for the vehicle.

Magistrates sitting at Newton Aycliffe on Wednesday (February 9) also heard that Hurman refused to take a breathalyser test and resisted a police officer.

The offences were committed while the 42-year-old, of Esk Road, was already serving a community sentence for a prior offence.

On July 1 last year he pleaded guilty to failing to provide a specimen for analysis and to resisting an officer.

He also admitted to failing to attend a bail appointment in September 2021.

Hurman denied the other charges but they were found proven in his absence on Wednesday.

Magistrates jailed him for 12-weeks, saying the offences were so serious because they were aggravated by being committed whilst he was subject to a community sentence.

He was also disqualified from driving for 18-months.
