A COUNTY Durham town will next week have its Post Office service resurrected after finding a new operator for the branch – bringing communities nearer to a local service that’s been missing for numerous months.
Residents in Shildon lost one of their Post Office facilities on Redworth Road last year, leaving countless people unable to access their usual services, and meaning that the two nearest branches was Church Street in Shildon and Cockton Hill Post Office in Bishop Auckland.
The ‘temporary’ closure was brought by the fact that previous owners of the building closed down their business and took with it the hopes of keeping two Post Office facilities in Shildon.

However, it was announced earlier this week that Redworth Road Post Office would return after a new operator had been appointed.
The branch will re-open on Tuesday, February 15 at 1pm.
From there, Redworth Road Post Office will 8am until 9pm (Monday to Sunday) and will offer a range of Post Office services.
In a statement, the Post Office have said that it’s “delighted” to return the temporarily closed branch back to the residents of Shildon.
Ian Murphy, Network Provision Lead for the Post Office, said: “Following the temporary closure of Shildon Post Office, we are delighted to let you know that a new operator has been appointed and we will be re-opening this branch on Tuesday 15 February 2022 at 1pm.
“The service will be operating from the same premises offering a range of Post Office products and services.
“I know that the local community will join me in welcoming this good news and hope that you and our customers will continue to use this service.”
Over the years, the branch has changed hands, with ‘Steve & Suki’s Mini Market’, Premier and Shildon Stores being the operator.
