WILKO confirmed this week that pets would be allowed to accompany their owners in two 248 branches of Wilko across the UK.

This divided opinion when we asked our readers on Facebook what their thoughts were on dogs being allowed in more shops.

Here is what readers had to say:

Liz Place said: “I would appreciate more dog-friendly stores.”

Melodie Hogarth said: “I think it's a little unfair to open shops to dogs as, even if on a lead, not everyone likes dogs, or maybe allergic to them, etc. People choose to have a dog in the knowledge there are places they can't take them. People don't choose to have allergies or a bad experience or memory of dogs.”

Anne-Marie Kayne said: “No! Dogs would pee everywhere, I'm an animal lover, but not all dogs have good manners.”

Babs Irish said: “We have a business and we welcome dogs and even have dog biscuits under the counter for a treat for them. So it’s a yes from me.”

Wendy Harrison said: “Yes but probably dependent on the shop.”

Ralph Patterson said: “Non-food shops yes, otherwise no!”

David Redford said: “I’m going to say no even though I have a dog.”

Claire Rowland said: “Not shops, but defo pubs. Even if it’s allocated areas. Dogs don’t want to go shopping.”

Lorna Davies said: “No, I’m a guide dog user, and my dog does not like other dogs, if dogs are in shops he would be heavily distracted and wouldn’t work as well as he usually does.”

Charmaine Blakely said: “No I'm allergic to dogs and it can trigger an asthma attack. If someone working in the shop was the same its not fair on them.”

Valerie Livingstone said: “Definitely...especially if they aren't food shops.”
