ROADSIDE tributes have been left to a 17-year-old boy who died in a crash on Saturday.

It happened in Darlington, on the A67 Carmel Road South, at about 7.30pm.

The teenager, who was a passenger in a white Transit van, was sadly confirmed dead at the scene.

Flowers, balloons and tributes were left at the scene over the weekend.

One message said: “Rest in Peace. Fly high big lad, taken way too soon. My thoughts go out to all your family.”

Another said: “Took from this world far 2 soon. May be gone but never forgotten.”

Northern Echo readers have also paid tribute to the teenager, as “good lad” with a “heart of gold”.

One reader said on social media: “Sleep tight brother, we all love you. I’ll forever cherish our memories. The light of Darlington you were.”

Another said: “Sleep tight my brother, keep it real up there.”

Another wrote: “Such a waste of a young life. RIP.”

Many more have passed their condolences to his friends and family.

Police are yet to confirm the identity of the youngster.

The driver, who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, was taken to hospital for treatment, along with a second passenger.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the collision.

Anyone with dashcam footage of a white Transit van being driven along the A66 from the Darlington Arena in the direction of Carmel Road South shortly before 7.30pm is asked to call Durham Constabulary on 101, quoting incident reference 352 of February 5.
