VISITORS to the Metrocentre in Gateshead can now enjoy an infusion of authentic Italian food with craft beer after restaurant Doppio Malto opened at the popular shopping spot at the end of last week.
Boasting good beer, ‘Italian cuisine with a twist’ and impress service, the restaurant opened its doors to a host of intrigued diners last Thursday (February 3).
After successfully launching its first UK restaurant in Glasgow in August last year, Doppio Malto has now expanded its offering by moving into the former Coast to Coast facility at the Metrocentre.

Starting in Italy, Doppio Malto has numerous restaurants in Europe, including two in France and 14 restaurants in Italy. According to the company, they now want to expand across the UK and open in other major locations.
A spokesperson for Doppio Malto said: “Doppio Malto is a happy place for happy people where you can discover good beer, authentic Italian food with a twist and great company.
“Each and every Doppio Malto is renowned for its motto “unpostofelice“. A happy spot to enjoy genuine craft beers paired with hearty dishes. A place where family and friends gather on all occasions, whether a birthday party or date night there is something for everyone. From beer-based bespoke cocktails to pool tables and darts, fun is always guaranteed.”

Now that the restaurant has opened to the public, what can people expect from the Metrocentre’s newest offering? While diners can expect the usual Italian offerings of pizzas and pastas, Italian Gourmet Burgers and Filone’s are also on the menu.
However, it’s also about the drinks, too. Several cocktails are on offer, including using coffee liquors, and the fresh beer from Doppio Malto’s brewery is another highlight.
