SNOW has been predicted for today and later in the week according to the most recent Met Office forecast.

According to The Met Office forecast for today, the region could see a mix of “rain, sleet and snow.”

The weather-forecaster has said it will be “a rather cold” day with “some sunny spells” as well as blustery showers.

The full forecaster for today reads: “Rather cold, with some sunny spells, but also blustery showers.

“These showers will fall as a mix of rain, sleet and snow, with any snow initially mainly on hills, but falling to lower levels in places as the day progresses. Maximum temperature 6 °C.”

Looking ahead to tonight there will be widespread “sharp frost” with a few “icy patches” according to the forecaster with a minimum temperature of -5c.

Going into Monday, the region could be hit with further frost which will soon give way to cloudier conditions and strengthening winds.

The full forecast for Monday reads: “A fine, cold and crisp start with frost, soon giving way to cloudier conditions and strengthening winds. A little rain is expected for many later, with temperatures gradually rising. Maximum temperature 10 °C.”

Tuesday to Thursday could see “changeable” weather as well as windy conditions according to The Met Office.

They said: “Probably milder but rather cloudy and wet Tuesday, with these conditions clearing southwards midweek to leave brighter but colder weather and wintry showers.

The long-range forecast between Tuesday February 10 and Saturday February 19 has predicted more “wintery” showers at times.

The full long-range forecast reads: “Early rain and drizzle will soon clear the southeast, leaving all areas with colder air from Thursday.

“Northern areas are likely to see further showers which could be wintry at times and these could be accompanied by gales in the far northeast.

“Heavy rain may return to the northwest at the weekend. Generally windy for most, although lighter in western and southwestern areas.

“Through the rest of this period high pressure will likely dominate across most of the UK.

“Rainfall will be limited at first with a risk of some wintry showers in the north and east, with an increasing chance of rain in western and northwestern areas later.

“Temperatures likely to be near average with the potential for a brief colder interlude for northern and eastern parts.”
