A TOWN centre outdoor clothing and equipment shop has announced its closure.

Millets, located on East Row, Darlington, near the indoor market, has announced a closing down sale.

Signs advertising a closing down sale say: “All stock must go. 30% off absolutely everything.”

However, it is unclear when the store will close for the final time.

The nearest Millets store for locals after the closure will be on Linthorpe Road in Middlesbrough.

Millets did not respond to a request for comment.

A spokesperson for Market Asset Management, which owns the market, said: “We are in ongoing discussions with Millets regarding our redevelopment plans for the market and the creation of the temperate garden.”

The Temperate Garden, a glass structure filled with greenery on the eastern side of the market building, will create additional space for visitors to eat and drink, as well as opening up access to the market’s underground vaults, which are earmarked for restaurant and bar developments.

The closure notice comes as other businesses in the nearby area have recently closed to make way for the ongoing redevelopment of Darlington Indoor Market.

The IL Cappuccino café closed after 35 years last year when the owner was told the unit was needed for the renovation of the indoor facility.

Inside, two food vendors have already left the facility after opening just five months ago however new traders are being lined up to fill the empty units.
