THOUSANDS of home are currently waiting for full access to water after a technical fault at Northumbrian Water. 

The issue at Broken Scar Treatment Works was reported in the early hours of Tuesday morning and quickly fixed.

But people in affected areas have been urged to take precautions by boiling water for drinking, cooking, food preparation, pets and brushing teeth.

This is a full list of affected postcodes as the Northumbrian Water warning remains in place.

Areas and postcodes 

Homes in the DL1, DL2 and DL3 postcodes are affected, mostly in the central part of the borough.

The specific postcodes affected are:
