EMERGENCY repairs are being carried out to a gas main in County Durham - with motorists warned of possible delays.
Northern Gas Networks (NGN), the North of England’s gas distributor, is carrying out emergency repairs on the A167 near Durham, heading into Chester-le-Street today (Tuesday, February 1).
Due to the location of the gas main in the road, Lane 1 of the northbound carriageway will be closed between the Pity Me roundabout and the Plawsworth roundabout until further notice whilst repairs are continuing.

The outside lane heading southbound on the A167 will also be closed, to enable engineers to carry out those repairs as safely and quickly as possible.
Andy Coates, Site manager at Northern Gas Networks, said: “The safety of our customers and engineers is our number one priority, and closing the lane is essential to ensuring the public and our workforce stay safe at all times.
“We would like to thank customers for their patience at this time and apologise for any inconvenience experienced. We will keep businesses and road users updated throughout the work.”
