EMERGENCY services have been dealing with a huge volume incidents caused by winds of up to 75 mph from Storm Malik.
A car was destroyed in South Shields when the gusts caused a partial building collapse, and there have been reports of fallen trees, fences and roof damage across the region.
The £25,000 Range Rover, which belonged to Russell Choudary, was left covered in bricks, which fell from the gable end of a row of terraced housing.
It has also been dangerous for motorists with several lorries tipping over on the A1(M) in County Durham.

A spokesperson for Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service said: “Our fire control have been phenomenal today, answering calls and making sure crews get to life critical incidents as quickly as possible.

"We have prioritised responding to 999 calls where people have been at serious risk of harm over other incidents where there has been some damage.
“We will endeavour to respond to every call but you can help support us by staying inside and securing any loose items in your gardens.
“Only travel if you have to as the bad weather is due to continue and we all still need to remain as vigilant as possible.
“Remember to check in on vulnerable family, friends and neighbours to make sure they're okay but if you are in danger and need our help, we'll be there.”
County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service requested additional staff come in on duty.
Durham Constabulary is also dealing with a high number of calls and has called in relief staff.
