A WOMAN who didn't buy a train ticket to Middlesbrough and couldn't pay the fare when asked has been fined hundreds in court.
Teesside Magistrates' Court heard that 31-year-old Kristy Johnson travelled by train from Northallerton to Middlesbrough without a valid ticket on July 19, 2021.

When asked to pay the £10 fare by an official in Middlesbrough, Johnson said she could not pay for the journey.
She was issued with an Unpaid Fares Notice requesting she pay the outstanding fare within 21 days.

Johnson, of Derwentwater Road, Middlesbrough, failed to do so and also did not respond to two subsequent reminder letters.

The case was proved in Johnson's absence from court on January 18 and magistrates fined her £220.
Court costs and compensation brought the total she has to pay up to £414.
