A MOTORIST failed to stop following a crash which left a cyclist in hospital.
A 60-year-old man is still in hospital following the crash between Billingham and Hartlepool on Monday, January 17.
He is being treated at the University Hospital of North Tees for a broken right hand which required surgery, grazes to both elbows which needed stitches and bruising to his hips and legs.
Police investigating the crash are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
It happened at about 6am on January 17, on the westbound carriageway of the A689 just east of Newton Bewley.
It involved a bicycle and a dark coloured vehicle.

Prior to the collision both were travelling westbound and when it happened the cyclist fell to the ground in the middle of the dual carriageway, but the driver left the scene.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "We would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw either the dark coloured vehicle beforehand or the collision itself, as well as anyone with dash cam footage, to get in touch.
"We would also urge the driver to come forward. Please contact Cleveland Police on the 101 number, quoting ref 008752."
