A DURHAM City café which was told to make "urgent improvements" and slapped with a one-star hygiene rating has been given a fresh new score.
Café Ravika, which recently opened in the former Esquires Coffee on Silver Street, was given the second-lowest possible hygiene score towards the end of last year.
Uzma Rehman, manager of the café, said it had "immediately" completed the required tasks from food safety officers and did so within several hours.

She said: "We are a new business and trying our best. We take our customers and staff Health and Safety very seriously.
"Once we had received the council's advice letter, we immediately implemented and completed all tasks required within hours."

The venue, which serves a "British & European" menu with an Asian twist, opened in Durham last year as a raft of new independents joined the city.
Ms Rehman added: "Council officials agreed to revisit our cafe once again to reassess our ratings.
"We are delighted to confirm after the council's officials revisit on January 14 we were awarded a five-star rating."
