SCHOOLCHILDREN have shared the best ways to save energy and reduce household bills as part of a week of action.
Year 4 and 5 pupils from West Park Academy created posters for local housebuilder, Barratt Developments North East, to illustrate ways residents can be more energy efficient to help save the planet and reduce household bills during Big Energy Saving Week.
The school received a £250 voucher to go towards its own energy saving technology and students’ work will be on display at the new housing development The Orchard at West Park.
The three top energy saving tips shared by children at West Park Academy are: turn off the lights, turn off electronic appliances and unplug devices when not in use, and choose to wear layers and use blankets where possible.
West Park Academy eco coordinator, Louise Atkins, said: “This was an enjoyable and highly relevant activity for the children because it brought to life the importance of saving energy, which is only more important today than it was yesterday.
"The children really loved designing their posters and it encouraged them to be more environmentally conscious.
"We’re proud that they got behind this so enthusiastically and we’re extremely grateful to Barratt Developments for the generous voucher donation, which will go a long way to supporting our eco activities.”
