AN airport just twelve miles away from a council's headquarters was ignored in a tweet - prompting a rather passionate reminder that it exists.
The account 'Invest Middlesbrough,' run by Middlesbrough Council earlier today tweeted that the town was a "gateway to the UK and the rest of the world."
But that was not before tweeting to its 4,600 followers that there are "five international airports" within "easy reach" of the town and appearing to snub Teesside Airport.
The tweet went on to mention the likes of Newcastle, Leeds and Manchester - but not Teesside, before closing with a statement.
Middlesbrough is a gateway to the UK and the rest of the world.

Five international airports are within easy reach, and we have direct rail connections to Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Edinburgh and more recently — London. ✈️🚄

But not wanting to be forgotten, the official account for Teesside Airport hit back and reminded the council-run account that it is there.
In a rather light-hearted, but cheeky tweet - tagging Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston, it said: "Hi @MbroCouncil @Tees_Issues what about Teesside Airport? SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL AIRPORT!."
And just five minutes after, they replied after spotting their gaffe.
How could we forget you?🤦♂️

Of course we also have the wonderful Teesside International Airport right on our doorstep! https://t.co/oCW04DBSBN
The exchange comes as Teesside Airport today revealed it is launching a big recruitment drive for ten new firefighters to join the team.

Making the announcement, it said that roles paying up to £29,500 had gone live with applicants not required to have had any prior experience or qualifications.
The Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “The firefighters that make up the Fire & Rescue Service at our airport are true heroes, not only are they able to respond to emergencies on the airfield within just a couple of minutes, but they also play a critical role in keeping the entire airport site safe and secure.
"So, as we expand the number of flights to more destinations, and welcome larger aircrafts, it is essential we increase the number of highly trained firefighters as we welcome even more local people through our terminal building."
