People have been urged to take care when travelling after the Met Office warned that an increase to injury and accidents is a possibility in what will be ‘tricky’ conditions.
Early wintry showers in those areas, and rain, sleet and hill snow will leave surfaces cold and wet by early evening, according to the Met Office.
Clear spells for a time will allow ice to form in places, particularly for evening commuters, before temperatures trend up after midnight.
Following the snow and rain, the Met Office has also warned that falling snow may cause some temporary slushy accumulations which then may freeze and cause icy patches where skies remain clear for long enough.
Here's the forecast for today (January 7):
Temperatures are expected to fluctuate between three degrees and below freezing throughout Friday evening, and some icy patches forming on some untreated roads, pavements, and cycle paths.
Where these occur, an increased likelihood of accidents or injuries- will increase.
The Met Office have said that people can expect travel delays on roads with a small chance of some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.
