TRAIN services in the region are facing disruption this morning.

An unspecified issue between Darlington and York has resulted in delays or changes to services on the line, which is expected to continue until about 9am.

The National Rail Enquiries website reports: “A problem under investigation between Darlington and York is resulting in disruption to trains between these stations.

“Trains may be delayed by up to 20 minutes or amended until approximately 09:00.”

This is on top of disruption to a number of services which has been ongoing for a number of weeks, due to staff shortages due to coronavirus cases.

About CrossCountry, just one of those affected, National Rail Enquiries states: “Due to train crew availability issues and ongoing covid isolation instances, there will be disruption to CrossCountry services until further notice.

“Some trains may start later or finish earlier than originally planned, and there will be a number of cancellations throughout the day in order to provide a more robust timetable.

“You may find that the train you had booked to travel on is no longer running.

“Some services may also be formed of fewer carriages than usual and will therefore be busier.”

LNER also had to make some daily train service reductions, which started on Monday, December 20, due to a shortage of train crew as a result of an increase in the number of our staff self-isolating.

And trains across the Northern network are subject to short-notice cancellations and alterations, due to the impact of Covid-19 on train crew availability.

All rail operators have said they are doing what they can to maintain services, and apologised in advance for any inconvenience, and are recommending that you check your journey before you travel.
