FAMILIES are celebrating after welcoming their new babies into the world in the new year.
Hospital staff throughout the North East have been busy caring for pregnant mothers to be today, and some families have shared their new bundles of joy with the world.
Peterlee mother Angel gave birth to son Jenson Kennedy at 7.56am on Saturday, weighing 5lbs and 11oz, with her mum Angela at her bedside.
Elsewhere, Hartlepool couple Chantelle and Joseph Clark welcomed their baby daughter Neveah.
Chantelle had been cared for by Sue Bromley one of the Rowan Team Midwives in Hartlepool and Midwife Jean Whittle was caring for her during the birth at North Tees Hospital.
Neveah weighed 6lb 4 oz and was born at 10:16 am.
