REVELLERS were out in force last night as people across the region welcomed the arrival of 2022.

Photographers from North News were out capturing the action with many seemingly enjoying the festivities on a mild night in Newcastle.

There was, however, signs of trouble as the night went on and it appears arrests were made by police.

But bars and clubs were ready for what is traditionally one of the busiest nights of the year, although many restaurants did say bookings had been cancelled due to fears over the Omicron Covid variant.

The party city did see the arrival of visitors from Scotland, where restrictions are tighter and Hogmanay celebrations were cancelled.

The usual fireworks display in Newcastle was replaced with an impressive laser from the Quayside, which could be seen from miles around.
