AN Amazon delivery site in the North East is celebrating its first Christmas - with dozens of staff working to get gifts out in time for the big day.

The 'DNE2' delivery station at Follingsby Park South in Gateshead opened for the first time in Summer, shipping parcels to doors across the region.

Little has been revealed about the smaller delivery hubs following a year of announcements from the online retailer with its larger 'Fulfilment Centres.'

With a fleet of Amazon Prime vehicles, the team process thousands of already packed parcels a week from neighbouring Fulfilment Centres.

The Northern Echo:

Opening ahead of the NCL1 Fulfilment Centre, located next to the delivery hub, in June, it has already shipped millions of orders.

Zoe Plummer is just one of the employees at the site in Gateshead who’ll be helping deliver for customers this Christmas.

She joined the online retailer after previously working for a Luton-based watch repair company in a bid for "greater opportunities for career progression."

She said: “I joined Amazon because they offer competitive pay, fantastic benefits and a host of training and development programmes to help me further my career.

"I’m excited that our delivery station in Gateshead is now open and I’m looking forward to helping put smiles on our customers’ faces this Christmas.”

The Northern Echo:

Festive food giveaways, Christmas games, giveaways and Christmas Jumper days are just some of the things taking place throughout December as the delivery station team delivers for customers this Christmas.

Speaking ahead of the site’s first Christmas, James Boag, Amazon Gateshead Delivery Station Manager, said a wide range of roles had been created.

He said: “We’re excited to celebrate our first Christmas in Gateshead.

"The team at Amazon in Gateshead is ready to deliver for our customers ahead of a great festive shopping season, having also created local job opportunities across a wide range of disciplines in a safe and welcoming environment.”

The Northern Echo:

Amazon is offering entrepreneurs the opportunity to build their own business delivering Amazon packages, as well as independent contractors the flexibility to be their own boss and create their own schedule delivering for Amazon Flex.

It comes as earlier this month, The Northern Echo revealed work was underway on what is believed will be the retailer's fourth warehouse in the region.
