POLICE are appealing for information after an elderly woman was robbed in Darlington.

The 70-year-old woman was at a bus stop in Yarm Road, opposite the junction with Teal Road, at about 8.15am on Saturday.

Two men have been arrested in connection with the incident and police are appealing for information to help find a third person. 

The woman was waiting for her bus when a man grabbed her handbag and ran off through St Herbert’s Church grounds towards Albatross Way.

The man is described as being white, of medium build, in his mid to late thirties and around 5ft 3inches to 5ft 5inches tall.

He was wearing dark coloured clothing, a black beanie style hat and a hi-vis tabard with grey stripes on it.

Officers are appealing for anyone who has CCTV cameras in the local area to check their footage for a man matching that description between 8am and 8.45am.

They would also like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed anything suspicious.
