A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of knife offences after armed police descended on a Teesside town this morning.
Hartington Road in Stockton was closed and armed police and several police vehicles were on the scene after reports of a disturbance just before 10am.
Cleveland Police have now confirmed said a man has been arrested for the possession of a bladed article.
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Police were called at 9.42am to Hartington Road, Stockton. Officers attended including armed response officers.
"A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article."
According to eyewitnesses the busy street was evacuated and areas were taped off by police and emergency workers.

Videos and pictures circulating on social media showed armed officers at the scene, with more arriving.
Cleveland Fire Brigade confirmed they sent three fire engines to the scene.
A spokesperson said: "We were called at 09.57 to an incident on Hartington Road in Stockton. Three fire engines are in attendance, two from Stockton and one from Billingham."
