A MAN who used his own body to prop someone up after a crash keeping them alive and a 14-yar-old boy who lifted a heavy cattle gate away from his grandfather’s head are just some members of the North Yorkshire residents receiving awards for their bravery.
Kevin King came across an accident at Grimston Bar roundabout in York in June 2020 where he saw a car had been hit by a tractor and ended up on its side by the roundabout.
The driver of the car escaped but the passenger was still trapped inside, suspended upside down by her seat belt.

Mr King immediately stopped to help by climbing into the vehicle on his hands and knees and held the injured women up.
He used his back as a platform while he remained on all fours bearing her weight and he remained in the risky position for 30 minutes preventing further injury.
Eventually members of the North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service arrived and managed to free the woman by cutting the car.
With thanks to Kevin she survived her injuries and Kevin was awarded a testimonial vellum for his bravery.
Meanwhile, a 14-year-old was awarded a certificate of commendation after he saved his Grandfather’s life in Crayke in York in June last year.
Robert Featherstone’s grandfather was on the farm when some heavy cattle gates had fallen on top of him, pinning him to a wall by his head and throat.
Robert found his grandfather and managed to partially lift the gates away from his head.
He then wedged a wooden strut in between the gates and the wall to release the pressure and give the man space to breathe.
Whilst doing this he managed to call the emergency services, but his grandfather was struggling to breathe and was bleeding from his head and neck.
An unknown person came to help just before the emergency services arrived and removed the gates and Robert’s Grandfather was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Surviving his injuries, he joined Robert to watch him receive his award.
