THE new secondary school campus in Northallerton has been opened by the town's MP Rishi Sunak.

The redevelopment of the former Allertonshire School, opened by the MP for Richmond, welcomed its first pupils in September.

Mr Sunak outlined the great opportunities offered to pupils and local community by the new campus.

He said: "This has been quite a journey but Northallerton now has a superb new secondary school which gives the staff and students a much better environment for learning and a much brighter future."

The school, which has undergone a turbulent period following an Ofsted report which placed it in special measures in January 2018, had been based at the former Grammar School site at the southern end of Northallerton prior to the move.

Mr Sunak added the he had been delighted to play a part in facilitating the move to the redeveloped Allertonshire site by helping to secure a £8.7m grant for the redevelopment from the Department of Education.
