HOMES still without power are set to be further affected by Storm Barra as it begins to batter the North East and North Yorkshire.

Northern Powergrid said it was in “the final push” to reconnect the 500 customers who remain without power this morning.

However, the Met Office issued a yellow warning for snow yesterday affecting much of the North East and North Yorkshire.

The warning, which is set to bring “heavy snow”, is set to be in place between 11am today to midnight tonight.

Travel and cancellations to rail and air travel has also been predicted by the weather forecaster, with a slight chance “some rural communities could be cut off.”

A small chance of further power cuts have also been predicted as well as other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

Travel is also set to be disrupted as strong winds are set to bring gusts of 45 to 50 miles per hour with coastal areas seeing gusts of 55 to 65 miles per hour.

North Yorkshire County Council have advised that anyone planning to travel to consider whether they need to.

The wind could also affect bus and train services with some journeys taking longer as a result.

The Met Office have also predicted “some short term loss of power and other services is also possible.
