A BUSY stretch of the A19 used by thousands of commuters on a daily basis, is to be closed for the next two nights as widening work continues on the dual carriageway.
Engineers will work tonight and tomorrow, Monday and Tuesday, December 6 and 7, on the southbound section between the A689 and A139, where County Durham meets Teesside.
The work is due to be carried out between the hours of 8pm and 6am with diversions to be signposted.
It is part of final stages of the ongoing “£60 to £70m” upgrade to widen the section of road into three lanes, between the Wynyard and Norton junctions.
The project began in March last year with the aim of easing pressure at peak times in the rush hour on what can prove to be a bottleneck.
It is due to be completed early in 2022.
Highways England said the work will prove beneficial to both local residents and businesses by improving the reliability of journey times and the “resilience” of the network, as well as easing general congestion.
